Spring Cleanup 2018 Recap

Spring Cleanup 2018 Recap

Thanks to everyone who participated in Spring Cleanup 2018! This continues to be one of Emerson-Garfield’s most popular one-day events. This year, more than 200 residents participated from addresses all over the neighborhood.     Here’s the recap from the Spring Cleanup organizer, Karl Boldt: This was our tenth roll-off event. We had great weather all day long, with highs in the mid-70s and mostly sunny skies. The trucks arrived with the containers at 7:10am and had most all in…

Christ Our Hope Bible Church held its annual Parking Lot Party last Sunday. In addition to the live music and free hot dogs, snow cones and popcorn, there were activities like a bicycle obstacle course, a dunking booth, a wacky ring toss, a bouncy castle and even a workshop where participants could use templates to cut and build wooden toy cars. Church elder John Smith sent along some photos showing the great turnout at this fun, family-oriented, community-wide event. It’s just one of the many ways COHBC opens its…

Summer Parkways returned to Emerson-Garfield last Friday evening. Streets around Corbin Park limited access to traffic to make way for people-powered transportation like bicycles and skateboards. The park itself played host to vendors like Pizza Rita, LuLaRoe and The Scoop plus outreach tables for the Emerson-Garfield Neighborhood Council, Spokane C.O.P.S., the Summer Parkways Staff, Washington Bikes, Spokane Public Montessori, Corbin Park Homeowners Association, Washington Trails Association, Faith Bible Church and others. The E-G Neighborhood Council also held its Concert in the Park…

The Emerson-Garfield Farmers’ Market launched its second season on Friday, June 6. Plenty of returning vendors were on hand, plus there were some very popular new ones, such as Project Hope’s Riverfront Farm and The Scone Ranger. In the music department, E-G’s very own Spokaloo was a big hit too. Here’s a sampling of photos, taken by EGNC Vice Chair and head of our Neighborhood Planning initiative, Megan Kennedy: From this point on, the market runs every Friday from 3-7pm until October…

In pure numbers alone, this year’s Spring Cleanup was the most successful yet. The neighborhood used $6,443.19 of its $6,500 budget and hauled 34.77 tons of trash. That means 11 dumpsters were filled. It also amounts to ten more tons than last year — the highest the neighborhood has logged in the time it’s been running the Spring Cleanup. There were some unfortunate delays due to a broken dumpster hinge and a truck returning with an “empty” dumpster that was…
