Summer Parkways Returns to Emerson-Garfield (July 18)

Summer Parkways Returns to Emerson-Garfield (July 18)

Summer Parkways is returning to our neighborhood for the first time in several years, so the Emerson-Garfield Neighborhood Council has teamed up with them to create an all-out block party on Friday, July 18. It will run from 6-9pm in Corbin Park and some of the surrounding streets (click here to view the traffic plan).

As part of the festivities, our annual Concert in the Park will be held in the heart of Corbin Park from 6-8pm. This year’s featured musician is a duet version of the award-winning Sara Brown Band.

Popular prepared food vendors like The Scoop and Pizza Rita will be there too.

The Emerson-Garfield Farmers’ Market, which runs from 3-7pm (as usual) just a few blocks away, is part of the event’s unofficial bike/walk itinerary. Stop by first to get some freshly picked, locally grown fruit and vegetables, drop them off at home, then head over to the start of the fun in Corbin Park.

And remember: This event is what you make it! Arrange a slalom for skateboarders in the street in front of your house. Help your kids set up a popsicle or lemonade stand. Hold a sidewalk chalk art contest. Invite a garage band to play an acoustic set. Or just have a BBQ for friends and family on your front lawn.

If you’re on Facebook, join the event here.

E-G Neighborhood Plan Presentation (Tonight, Jun 12)

E-G Neighborhood Plan Presentation (Tonight, Jun 12)

This is a short day-of reminder that the Emerson-Garfield Neighborhood Planning Group will present its final neighborhood plan tonight (June 12) starting at 6:30 at Knox Presbyterian (806 W Knox).

The plan has been developed over the better part of two years by a group of dedicated volunteer stakeholders with the assistance of AHBL and the City Planning department. It lays the groundwork for the future of Emerson-Garfield — things like pedestrian safety, business viability, beautification, neighborhood vitality, transportation and more.

March_EGNP_Draft_coverWho is this presentation for? Everyone in E-G. The issues and solutions it lays out will positively affect homeowners, renters, businesses, landlords, churches, charities, schools, realtors, developers and anyone else who has or will have a stake in our neighborhood. If that’s you, then make it a point to attend.

Korean Food Sale (Jun 13, Concurrent with the Farmers’ Market)

Spokane Hope Christian Reformed Church (스포켄 소망교회), which shares a building with Knox Presbyterian (806 W Knox), will be holding another Korean Food Sale this month. This time, however, they’ve scheduled it on Friday, June 13 — making it concurrent with the Emerson-Garfield Farmers’ Market at the same location. Typically the food sale has been held on the second Saturday.

They’ve also extended the hours of this popular fundraising sale from 11am to 7pm to coincide with the market and better serve both the lunch and dinner crowd.

This month’s menu includes bulgogi (Korean BBQ beef), jeyook-bokeum (spicy pork), gimbap (sushi), bibim-bap (an all-in-one meal), kimchi fried rice and potstickers.

They’re also running a bonus deal again. Order four meals and you’ll get a fifth one for free!
