Crime analysts in the Spokane Police Department have spotted an emerging trend of vehicle thefts in the Emerson-Garfield area over the last two days. Some stats: Vehicles have been targeted between midnight and 3am The target area is between Jefferson and Normandie (west/east); Knox and Boone (north/south) Targeted vehicles are primarily ’90s sedans, with Hondas being half of the reported stolen vehicles The Spokane Police Department is reminding citizens to lock car doors to help prevent these types of crimes…

We’ve just posted the vendor lineup for tomorrow’s Emerson-Garfield Farmers Market to our Facebook page. There are 17 in total — including fresh-baked bread (also gluten-free), fresh-picked veggies, locally grown berries and tree fruit, healthy goat meat, wild-caught seafood, seasonings, and some amazing health & beauty items. Last year Emerson-Garfield resident Mary Charbonneau won the Peirone Prize as part of The Inlander’s Give Guide, the alt-weeky’s annual philanthropy issue in which they highlight people who are making things better here in the Inland Northwest. The paper featured a long profile of Mary and her work with Washington Bassett Rescue. Mary is a familiar face at neighborhood council meetings, neighborhood events, and even (or especially) in the virtual ‘hood on our Facebook page….

The first-ever Emerson-Garfield Farmers’ Market yesterday was a promising launch event. The foot traffic was fairly steady throughout the afternoon despite the 95° heat. And perhaps just as importantly, patrons were overwhelmingly enthusiastic that a market was now in our area. More than just a place to buy fresh-baked bread, delicious local produce, or mouth-watering food truck fare, it brought together people who live, work, or just pass through Emerson-Garfield and gave them a chance to slow down and socialize….
