Saint Andrews Episcopal Church on North Howard Street is starting a garden on the back side of the church at the parking lot, and they’re looking to make some raised garden box beds available to the community. There will be a talk on Saturday, April 27th if you are interested in joining them!

Community members can take part in the Spring Clean Up event, pick up some tasty, locally-grown produce at the Emerson-Garfield Farmers’ Market, or join us at any of our monthly council meetings.

On Tuesday, April 9th STA is hosting an Open House where additional information about the Division Street BRT project will be shared and STA team members will be available to answer questions from the community.

Our good buddies at Shadle Park Presbyterian Church need to sell the house next to their church building and that means we need to move out all the stuff we’re storing on that property! We would love your help with that including ideas about how to move an 8×12′ shed and 8×8′ greenhouse. Here are some additional items that we need to find homes for, and your home could be an option if you need any of these materials to help you grow and share healthy food and relationships with your neighbors!
I’d love to have you over anytime next week to pick up what you need for your local garden and/or to help me organize and move things around!

The Lands Council is planting 500 trees to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Expo ’74. They will plant free trees in low canopy neighborhoods to provide those residents with the benefits of an urban canopy. Please join them – they will teach you how to plant trees correctly, provide all necessary gear and equipment, and you can join them afterwards for a free meal from local food trucks! This is a family friendly event, and all ages are welcome. Thank you for supporting our urban canopy!
Emerson-Garfield folks are welcome to request a tree, as well as volunteer at the plantings!

SpoCanopy is a program of City of Spokane Urban Forestry, in collaboration with The Lands Council. We want to ensure every person in every neighborhood in Spokane has access to trees and green space. That’s why we work with residents and volunteers to plant trees and beautify our city. Our goal is for every neighborhood in Spokane to have 30% canopy cover by 2030. Learn more about SpoCanopy here.
