Spokane Neighborhood Summit 2024

Spokane Neighborhood Summit 2024

With summer coming to a close, the kids back in school, and soup season just on the horizon; are you looking for new and interesting ways to participate in your community? Here is a wonderful upcoming opportunity!

Register today for the Spokane Neighborhood Summit!

Scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024, from 8 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Spokane Fire Department Training Center (1618 N Rebecca St.), this FREE event is for Spokane neighbors to gather together; learn alongside one another; and grow practices in their neighborhood councils.

Local leaders will provide valuable resources during workshops relative to the needs of Spokane neighborhoods. So, if you are the type of person who loves to learn about new topics, exchange best practices, meet new people, or be inspired by efforts in the community, then this event is a must to attend.

The Summit is open to any current or aspiring member of a Spokane neighborhood council. Capacity for the Summit will be capped at 80 participants so be sure to reserve your spot as soon as possible. There is no maximum number of members who can attend from any given neighborhood council, so be sure to loop in your fellow neighbors. A catered lunch will be served at the event. Visit the Summit webpage for more information.

 Spokane Works Tours

Want to dig even deeper into Spokane community efforts? Take a peek behind the curtain of some of Spokane’s most important municipal entities and join us on a Spokane Works Tour. If you enjoy the tour, consider hosting your next neighborhood council meeting there. The tours that are available include:

  • Spokane County Forensics Lab Tour
  • Spokane Public Art Walking Tour

Registration is required for the tours and separate from registration for the Spokane Neighborhood Summit. Capacity is limited so be sure to register as soon as possible!

EGNC Invitation – Commute Trip Reduction Virtual Open House

EGNC Invitation – Commute Trip Reduction Virtual Open House

EGNC would like to share the information below with the Emerson/Garfield community.

From the Spokane Regional Transportation Council –
In partnership with Spokane County and Commute Smart Northwest, SRTC is currently updating the region’s Commute Trip Reduction (CTR) Plan. The CTR program is intended to help reduce drive-alone trips throughout the region and encourages the use of alternative transportation options such as public transit, biking, walking, and teleworking options.

As part of this effort, we wanted to invite you to our virtual open house, scheduled for Wednesday, August 21 at 6pm. During this time, attendees will learn more about Commute Trip Reduction and can share their commute experience and obstacles. If you’d like to join us, you can join via zoom at the link provided: https://bit.ly/CTR-OPEN-HOUSE

You can also provide your input by taking our 3-minute survey: https://bit.ly/CTR-SRTC.
También disponible en español: https://bit.ly/CTR-SRTC-ESP.

Your comments help inform planning strategies and investments throughout the region. Survey results will be shared between SRTC and a host of local planning agencies, such as Spokane County, the City of Spokane, Spokane Valley, Liberty Lake, Airway Heights, Cheney, and Medical Lake.

If you have any questions for us or would like more information, you can reach out to mredlinger@srtc.org and bkloskey@srtc.org – or contact the SRTC office at 509-343-6370.

Thank you for being a valuable part of this community, and we hope to see you at the virtual open house!

Neighborhood Safety Committee Meeting

Neighborhood Safety Committee Meeting

EGNC community, we don’t currently have a Safety Representative, but if someone is interested in that role and would like to attend the next Neighborhood Safety Committee Meeting, here’s some information around that. Shared on behalf of Tyler Tamoush:

Hello all,

This is just a friendly reminder that the CA Neighborhood Safety Committee will NOT be meeting on our regularly scheduled evening of Wednesday, April 24th but instead we will be meeting on Tuesday, April 30th at The Hive – 2904 E Sprague in Studio E from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. We will have the room open at 5:00pm so feel free to arrive early if you wish. You can find Studio E by walking through the main entrance, take a right, and the studio will be to your right at the end of the hallway.

The reason for this change is because we will be participating as a committee, in person, for the virtual Public Safety Feedback Session for recommendations on the search for the new Police Chief. While the session is virtual on the city’s end, we as a committee felt it would be a good opportunity to participate as a CA Committee to provide feedback together. We will send out one more reminder on Tuesday in hopes there is no remaining confusion to the meeting date. I hope to see as many there as possible as this is a topic that can affect the entire community for both safety and equity. Stay safe and have a great weekend.

Respectfully,
Tyler Tamoush
Minnehaha CA Representative
Chair, CA Neighborhood Safety Committee
Secretary, CA Budget Committee
Student of Communications, Eastern Washington University

Mansfield Grocery Conditional Use Permit- Comments due 4/29/24

Mansfield Grocery Conditional Use Permit- Comments due 4/29/24

EGNC would love to give people a chance to submit comments if they so desire, on this proposed Mansfield Grocery Conditional Use Permit.

Location: 601 W Mansfield Ave. Parcel no. 35074.2512, SHANNONS 2ND L12 B6

The applicant is proposing a Retail Sales and Service use (grocery store) in the existing structure located at the above address. Spokane Municipal Code 17C.370 Existing Neighborhood Commercial Structures in Residential Zones will allow existing neighborhood commercial structures that once housed a legal neighborhood commercial use to be reused for low impact neighborhood scale and neighborhood serving businesses. This is processed as a Type II application and will be reviewed administratively with a decision issued by the Planning Director.

File/Application Number: Z24-217CUP2

Full proposal information with project application materials can be found here.

Please send all comments to Steven Bafus, Planner at sbafus@spokanecity.org by April 29, 2024, at 5PM.
