Spokane Hope Christian Reformed Church (스포켄 소망교회) is holding its last Korean Food Sale of the year on Saturday, November 5 from 10am to 2pm. The church’s kitchens are located on the lower level of Knox Presbyterian (806 W Knox).
The menu of ‘Seoul’ food is available for dining in or take out. It includes bulgogi (BBQ beef), spicy Korean pork, potstickers, bean pancakes, bibimbap (mixed veggies), gimbap (vegetarian sushi) and more. Their kimchi is always a favorite as well.

All are welcome to attend a Police & Community Forum on November 17, at 6 pm, at East Central Community Center, 500 S. Stone St. Its purpose is to create an opportunity for dialogue between law enforcement and the community and to build trust.
The evening begins with panel discussion. Panels are made up of community members and law enforcement (both Spokane Police and Spokane County Sheriff’s Office) employees. Later, everyone breaks into small groups to discuss. The small-group discussion allows for better dialogue and more personal interactions. Panel members stay afterward to talk to people who have more questions/concerns.
The forums have been very helpful in opening up dialogue. Participant comments were overwhelmingly positive for all the forums, especially since the addition of small-group discussion. At the most recent forum, 82% agreed that the event helped build their trust. 89% of participants agreed that the event gave the community a chance to be heard.

All are invited to attend a public meeting being held on Wednesday at North Central High School by the City of Spokane to discuss this property which is currently owned by the City. The City of Spokane is seeking feedback from the Emerson-Garfield neighborhood regarding community needs for this property.

The “Normandie Complex” is a 2-city block property owned by the City of Spokane and has been declared surplus property by the City Council in preparation for its disposition. The property is bounded by Mission Avenue on the north, Atlantic Street on the east, Sinto Avenue on the south, and Calispel Street on the west.The objective of the meeting is to gain insight into Neighborhood needs and concerns that the City should take into account while seeking and reviewing purchase offers on the Normandie Complex.

It’s that time of year again! Help keep Emerson-Garfield beautiful and join your neighbors to ready the yucca and horizontal juniper bushes on Maple (planted by neighborhood volunteers) for fall. Meet up at the intersection of Euclid and Maple on Saturday, October 22 at 9 am.
SNAP has limited funding to assist with the removal of trees, stumps, and woody debris over 4 inches in diameter for low-income home owners within the City of Spokane. The City of Spokane has provided funding to allow SNAP to provide these services. Eligibility is determined by SNAP guidelines and funding availability. SNAP can be reached at (509) 319-3080 or through their website at www.snapwa.org.
Resources are limited and approved funding is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Please submit applications for SNAP assistance by September 20, 2016. Applications received after September 20, 2016 will be considered if remaining funding is available.
Neighborhood Clean-Up Program: Call the Office of Neighborhood Services to get information at (509) 625-6083. In some cases, neighborhoods have funds allocated to provide services to help you clean up your property.
Catholic Charities Volunteer chore service for seniors and disabled individuals can be contacted at (509) 459-6172. Eligibility is determined by Catholic Charities.
Additional information: Residents who do not qualify for programs are encouraged to look at the list of licensed arborists on the City’s website at spokanecity.org. For removal of large stumps, consider logging, demolition and excavation companies. The Waste to Energy Facility is located at 2900 S. Geiger Boulevard; clean green material can be disposed of at the regular clean green disposal rate. The cost is $5.30 for up to 220 pounds or $49.76 per ton. Call 8-1-1 before you dig for safety reasons.
