Call for ideas on a neighborhood mural

Call for ideas on a neighborhood mural

There is an exciting annoucement from one of our neighborhood’s community resources, Fulcrum’s Ash Street Station. They will be the proud recipients of a mural to be painted on the north facing exterior wall. The Ash Street Station was selected by Gonzaga University’s Art Department, and the mural will be done in cooperation with Spokane Arts. Spokane Arts Supply will be donating art supplies and paint is being contributed via another project donor. What a great line-up of community partners coming together for a worthy project!art easel

Fulcrum’s Ash Street Station is offering the Emerson-Garfield neighborhood the opportunity to submit ideas for topics/themes that could be a part of the final design.

Anyone who wishes more information or who would like to submit any theme ideas for this mural, please contact:

Join your neighbors to weed and beautify the area to keep it looking great. Meet up at the intersection of Euclid and Maple on Saturday, June 25 at 11 am. Bring your garden gloves and some light weeding tools.

Trinity Catholic School Cow Plop (June 4); New Facility Proposed

Trinity Catholic School (1306 W Montgomery) is holding its 26th annual Cow Plop fundraiser on SaturdayJune 4 from 11am to 4pm.

Typically Trinity closes off a one-block portion of Cedar for this popular family-friendly event and brings in carnival-style games and activities. This year they’ll have a balloon-twisting clown, a bouncy house, games, arts and crafts, and lots more. Pizza Rita and a petting zoo will be there too.

They’ll also have over 50 cash prizes, including $3,100 in prize money for the winner of the bovine bingo. To buy bingo tickets or request more information, call (509) 327-9369. All proceeds benefit the students at Trinity.

Trinity also has some exciting news to share this year. This is from the school’s principal, Sandra Nokes:

There is a couple who is going to honor the gift of childhood and the mission of Trinity School. Funds have been designated to construct a brand new Trinity, and building plans are in the development process. The city has NOT given us FINAL APPROVAL, however, we are hopeful that they will support this monumental gift and continue to work with us to make it happen. We believe that Trinity has been and will continue to be a “beacon of hope” in the community, and for all we serve. Remember, Trinity works with families to make tuition affordable and we serve a diverse population, both non-Catholic and Catholic. A new Trinity with Educare enables us to continue to serve children and families into the future.

The school will be soliciting input and approval from community partners including the Emerson-Garfield Neighborhood Council once the plans reach the appropriate stage.

Neighborhood Notification Trainings (Jan 12 & 28)

Neighborhood Notification Trainings (Jan 12 & 28)

Owing to the popularity of its previous Neighborhood Notification training session on December 28, the Office of Neighborhood Services has coordinated two more training sessions.

The first is a repeat of the earlier Neighborhood Notification Training. That is scheduled for today (Tuesday, January 12) from 5:30-7:00pm at the the West Central Community Center (1603 N Belt) in the Mason Room at the rear of the building. If you missed the first one in December, it would be useful to attend this one to get an overview of what Neighborhood Notification involves and the protocols associated with it.

A second more advanced training covering Decision Criteria will be offered on Thursday, January 28 from 5:30-7:00pm (location TBD, but likely at the West Central Community Center once again). This session will provide a more in-depth look at the decision-making criteria for development projects. If you’re planning on attending the Decision Criteria Training, it’s important that you attend the Neighborhood Notification Training beforehand.

These training sessions are open to anyone who’s interested, not just neighborhood council members, so please feel free to attend and help spread the word.

To RSVP for either session, please contact Jackie Caro at jcaro@spokanecity.org or call (509) 625-6733.
