E-G Neighborhood Surveys Now Online

Two new neighborhood surveys are now online and ready for your input. One deals with general neighborhood issues, identity, and improvements. The other focuses specifically on shopping and small businesses in Emerson-Garfield.

Residents of Emerson-Garfield as well as neighborhood business and property owners are encouraged to fill out both surveys. Your input is essential and will help influence the decisions that are made regarding future funding, planning, and development.

When you’re finished, be sure to sign up for our e-newsletter! We hope to tell you about the results of the survey in a future mailing.

The e-newsletter is also one of the best ways to stay on top of neighborhood news, events, and opportunities — and rest assured that we’ll never give out your e-mail address or send more mail than necessary (usually just once or twice a month).

Oh, and please spread the word to your neighbors and fellow E-G residents through Facebook and Twitter. We need help getting the word out so we can collect as much feedback as possible.

Last but not least: Don’t forget that we have a public planning open house tonight from 6 to 9pm at 1905 N. Monroe. Everyone is welcome!

Emerson-Garfield is hosting its first neighborhood planning open house on Monday, May 21 from 6 to 9pm at 1905 N. Monroe (formerly Stewart’s Hardware).

Neighborhood residents as well as property and business owners will be able to:

  • View the results of a recent demographic study of our neighborhood conducted by EWU students
  • Take a neighborhood survey
  • Add to the neighborhood talent and ideas inventory
  • Help choose a neighborhood identity
  • Learn about crime statistics
  • Find out who is responsible for making decisions and changes in the neighborhood
  • Network and interact with other members of the community

Everyone with a stake in Emerson-Garfield is encouraged to attend and help spread the word to friends and family via Twitter, Facebook, or even good ol’ word of mouth.

This is part of a wider neighborhood planning initiative in which the City of Spokane, the Emerson-Garfield Neighborhood Council, and the North Monroe Business Association are all taking part.

Petunia’s Greenhouse Tour

Petunia’s Greenhouse Tour

Don’t forget that Petunia’s Greenhouse Tour takes place this weekend!

The tour will be held on Saturday, May 19 from 9am to 4pm. The meeting point is Petunia’s Marketplace at 2010 N. Madison. There will be five local greenhouses on the tour and each will feature a one-hour seminar on gardening.

Tickets are $10 and are available directly from Petunia’s. The proceeds will benefit the “Plant a Row” program at the local Second Harvest.

Our event calendar is now up and running. To view it, you can click the page title in the navbar above, or you can simply click here.

But wait: there’s more! As much as we like seeing you, you don’t have to keep returning to this website to stay up-to-date on all the latest happenings in Emerson-Garfield. You can subscribe to the calendar and always have it handy on your desktop, laptop, tablet, or mobile phone.

For most calendar apps, all you have to do is click this (.ics) subscription link. That will be compatible with clients like Outlook and iCal. If that doesn’t work, or if you prefer to use the XML standard, just click this (.xml) subscription link instead. It’s possible that you will have to copy the subscription link (right-click and “copy link”) and add it manually to your client by following a procedure similar to this one.

By subscribing, every time we add an event to the calendar — or if the time or venue changes — it will automatically be updated.

This is the start of the new website for the Emerson-Garfield neighborhood. It is so new that this is the only content.

Don’t worry, there will be much more content in the next few days and weeks.

A calendar, event notices, meeting minutes, photos from around the neighborhood and comments from readers and residents.

The next EG Steering Committee/Neighborhood meeting will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012. Meetings are held at the Corbin Senior Center and start at 7PM. All are welcome.
