Emerson-Garfield Neighborhood Council T-Shirts

Emerson-Garfield Neighborhood Council T-Shirts

It’s all going off.

As of today, we have brand new Emerson-Garfield Neighborhood Council T-shirts thanks to Pat Maguire. Pat’s an E-G resident and the owner of Spokane Valley Screen Printing. Totally unsolicited, he offered to make us T-shirts so that EGNC members and organizers can be better recognized at neighborhood events and strut their E-G pride.

EGNC T-shirt

The front bears the logo designed by former EGNC Chair Liorah Wichser (it won our neighborhood logo contest a few months back). On the back it reads “Emerson-Garfield Ambassador.”

Huge thanks to Pat for volunteering his services. The organizers will be proudly sporting these Ts at the Emerson-Garfield Farmers’ Market today. And depending on the response, we might be printing a variation of this T-shirt for general sale. Stay tuned.

Reminder: July Meetings and Breaks

Reminder: July Meetings and Breaks

Just a reminder that there is no Emerson-Garfield Neighborhood Council meeting this month. Normally the EGNC meets on the second Wednesday of each month, but this is not the case for July, when we traditionally take a break for the summer holidays.

There is, however, a Neighborhood Planning meeting on this Wednesday, July 10, at the Corbin Senior Center [map]. It starts at 7pm and will run about an hour. If you’re on Facebook, please RSVP here (and please “Like” the E-G Neighborhood page while you’re at it).

This is an ideal activity for anyone with an interest in helping to determine what our neighborhood looks like in five, ten or even twenty years’ time — it doesn’t matter whether you’re a seasoned neighborhood stalwart or just someone who’s curious about Emerson-Garfield’s future.

But one meeting instead of two doesn’t mean that there’s nothing going on. Looking  ahead into July and August, we have the launch of our first-ever weekly farmers’ market on Friday, July 19 (click here for times, location, and more details). We also have a free concert in Emerson Park [map] on Sunday, July 28, which is also the same day as the Christ Our Hope Bible Church’s Parking Lot Party. Fortunately, they only overlap by half an hour. Hit the concert first at 4pm, then head down to the PLP!

In August, we have our annual summer potluck. This year it’s in Corbin Park [map] and starts at 6pm. That will happen in place of the August EGNC meeting — in other words, on Wednesday, August 14.

Get an overview of all those events on our calendar page or on Facebook; registered Facebook users are encouraged to RSVP. We’re also asking for your help to spread the word — more on that (with download links to flyers for printing) is here.

Help Us Get the Word Out!

Help Us Get the Word Out!

We have a number of really exciting upcoming neighborhood events, and we could use your help in spreading the word.

Like most all-volunteer organizations, we’re limited by funds and manpower. We can’t afford to print enough flyers to reach everyone — and even if we did, we don’t have enough members to make sure that a copy is delivered to everyone in the neighborhood.

So please download the flyers below (they’re standard PDFs) and print out a copy or two for your neighbors, church, or workplace. It would lift some of the load from our shoulders, and it would make sure that more and more people hear about these great neighborhood events.

The 2-up/4-up ones will need to be cropped accordingly. Or you can click on the icons above to access 1-up versions of all the flyers.

Thanks on behalf of the Emerson-Garfield Neighborhood Council for any help you’re able to offer! And if you have time, please leave some info in the comments about where you’ll be flyering — we naturally don’t want to cover the same area twice.

Meet the EGNC Tomorrow at the COHBC Garage Sale

Got lingering questions about the Emerson-Garfield Neighborhood Council? You can catch up with us tomorrow (Saturday, July 6) at the Christ Our Hope Bible Church community garage sale.

We’ll have a table where you can chat face-to-face with members of the EGNC and find out just what the neighborhood council is and what it does. They’ll be able to tell you about upcoming events like the farmers’ market and the concert in Emerson Park, how the neighborhood council can help improve your street, and ways you can contribute your time or expertise to the EGNC.

Please feel free to stop by and say hi. We hope to see some new faces there!

Proposed Changes to Photo Red: Your Input Is Needed

Proposed Changes to Photo Red: Your Input Is Needed

The Spokane City Council is currently looking at the Photo Red program to see if they want to recommend to the Spokane Police Department to move forward with retaining or amending the contract language.

Neighborhood councils like ours need to be proactive when it comes time for open discussion as to where those funds may be allocated. There is expected to be discussion as to using some of the funds for purposes other than neighborhood traffic calming projects such as roundabouts and speed limit signs. Right now, Photo Red funds can only be used for traffic calming, and a recent vote by the EGNC came out in favor of keeping it this way.

The Community Assembly (which is sort of a roundtable of all Spokane neighborhood councils) is asking for our feedback on this issue so as to introduce it as a discussion topic for the City Council this autumn.

We ask that residents of Emerson-Garfield Neighborhood take the following informal poll(s) so we can provide feedback to the Community Assembly.

If you voted “No” on the poll titled Photo Red Funding, please use the comments section below to suggest where you would spend Photo Red funds in addition to neighborhood traffic calming projects.

Thanks in advance for your feedback!
