N. Monroe Business Outreach Event (Apr 17)

The Emerson-Garfield Neighborhood Planning group will be holding a business outreach event at CSL Plasma (2126 N. Monroe) on Thursday, April 17 at 7pm.

Business Outreach, April 17

The event is open to anyone who owns a business or property along or near N. Monroe, primarily those north of the “five corners” intersection with Indiana and NW Boulevard and south of the North Hill. The aim is to inform participants how the planning group arrived at some proposals for improvements to N. Monroe following a nearly two-year effort, and to solicit input from the business and property owners that speaks to their vision for this important corridor.

Light refreshments will be served at the event, which should run no more than 90 minutes. A number of guest speakers will be addressing the benefits of a large-scale revitalization effort, including Councilwoman Candace Mumm, urban planners, and business leaders from the E. Sprague and S. Perry districts.

2014 Spokane Regional Construction Map

The Spokane Regional Transportation Council (SRTC) has released the Spokane Regional Road Construction Map for 2014. The map includes all construction projects county-wide that will impact traffic.

This year the map will only be published online and in an interactive format. While that means no more paper maps, it also means you can now access it on your smartphone or other handheld devices. The online format also allows you to zoom in on smaller projects, such as those in your neighborhood, and click on projects to read their descriptions.

To create the Spokane Regional Road Construction Map each year, SRTC staff works with staff at their partner agencies (City of Spokane, Spokane Valley, Spokane County, the Washington State Department of Transportation, Spokane Transit, and small cities and towns) to put all their construction projects that will impact traffic on a single map.

EmersonLogoSmallThe Emerson Community Garden is holding a  dinner meeting tomorrow (Friday, April 11) at 1304 W Fairview starting at 6pm.

This barbecue and planning event is open to all returning and new members of the Emerson Community Garden.

The garden’s directors will take this opportunity to share their vision for the ECG as it enters its third year and offer you the chance to participate. They’ll explain how the ECG is different from other community gardens, and you’ll also learn how you can become a member.

Materials for the April 9 EGNC Meeting

Join the Emerson-Garfield Neighborhood Council when they meet tonight (Wednesday, April 9) at 7pm in the Corbin Senior Center (827 W Cleveland). It’s a lighter agenda than the past two meetings, but there are some important items.

The top item will be voting on the North Hill Neighborhood’s proposed developer agreement for the city-owned property on Cora at the base of the N. Monroe Hill. You can find that agreement as an appendix in this month’s agenda. We ask that you please familiarize yourself with that document beforehand to avoid prolonging the meeting.

The second important item is elections. Our secretary is dead set on stepping down after four years in the role, and though his shoes will be tough ones to fill, we’re hoping the right candidate will do so.

Don Waller, President of the Spokane Firefighters Union IAFF 29C will be one of the two guest speakers. Fulcrum Institute canceled because they wanted to develop their project more fully before addressing neighborhoods, but Alicia Powell of the Office of Neighborhood Services will be taking their place to finalize the scheduled tree-planting on N. Maple on April 19.

In addition to addressing some recent resident concerns, there will also be updates on the annual Spring Cleanup event, scheduled for May 10.

Good news for Asian food fanatics: Spokane Hope Christian Reformed Church (스포켄 소망교회) has switched from a biannual schedule to a monthly event with their Korean food sales! The next one will be on Saturday, April 12 from 11am to 2pm.

If you’re not already aware of where the SHCRC is, don’t worry. Raising awareness about the church is part of the reason why they hold these events. They share a building with Knox Presbyterian Church (806 W Knox), which is where the Emerson-Garfield Farmers’ Market is held during market season. In fact, the SHCRC recently informed us that they’re hoping to have a vendor booth at the market this year.

April 2014 Korean Food SaleThere’s a bit more on the menu than last month — including kimchi fried rice and bibimbap. Recurring favorites like the potstickers and spicy pork are still there too. As always, all proceeds benefit the SHCRC.
